Religious Education Volunteer Opportunities

CATECHIST
Develop lesson plans and teach children about their Catholic faith! Must be confirmed, practicing Catholic. Weekly commitment of 4-5 hours, including preparation and classroom time. Religious Education fees are waived for Catechists in return for preparation and generosity. However, the $50.00 sacramental fee is not waived.
Required to attend orientation at the beginning of the year (in August), and participate in Faith Formation throughout the year (during your regular teaching time).
CO-CATECHIST
Must meet all the same requirements as a Catechist, but shares duties with another person. Required to attend orientation at the beginning of the year (in August), and participate in Faith Formation throughout the year
(during your regular teaching time).
CLASSROOM AIDE
Responsible for coming to class early and staying late every week to assist Catechist. Weekly commitment of 1 ½ hours. Required to attend orientation at the beginning of the year (in August), and participate in Faith Formation throughout the year (during your regular teaching time).
SUBSTITUTE CATECHIST
Willing to fill in for catechists on an “on-call” basis. Usually last minute, but will be provided with a teacher’s manual and any materials needed.
NURSERY
Coordinator – This position can be done from the comfort of your own home! Responsible for setting up schedule at beginning of year and finding substitutes when needed.
Provider – Supervise nursery during Religious Education. Children in nursery are those of catechists and aides. You must arrive at 4:15 so catechists can prepare for class. Ideally this task will be shared by several people and you
would rotate weeks. If you have young children you are more than welcome to bring them along.
OFFICE HELP
General Help – mailings, copying, filing, cutting, etc. to support Christian Education ministries. Help during the work day or while your child is attending Religious Ed. Commitment can vary.
Appreciation Committee – Parents needed to help create/put together gifts for volunteers for special occasions…2 or 3 times a year.
SUNDAY PARKING LOT ATTENDANT
Help direct traffic at drop off and/or dismissal times. This would only be
for the first couple of weeks of the year and possibly on occasion if
needed. Would need to be here from 6:15-6:45 to help with drop off and
be here from 7:45-8:15 to help with dismissal.

*All volunteers ages 16 and older must be VIRTUS trained.
